Ricoh have generously delivered us a new toy, we now have an Aficio MP 2550 to play with. The MP 2550 is the first V4 MFD we have had a chance to look over.

Cosmetically there seem to be few differences between the V4 and the V2 machines with only small changes to the Web Image Monitor. Hopefully nothing fundamental has changed under the hood either.

I set about installing the production version of miRicoh (MB1.14.00) the installation process seemed identical other than there must be a small change to dalp formatting as the application description failed to read correctly.

Annoyingly V4, like V2, requires a manual start of the application after an install. However, miRicoh started without any issues.

After a few tests I was glad to notice that V4 is (superficially at least) backward compatible with the 2.X code. The only obvious difference appears to be that V4 has a deeper reporting in exception messages.

We will obviously be looking at this in detail and checking out the new features.
