There is little debate these days that fax is a declining requirement that is gradually being replaced by scan-to-email. People buying MFDs face a difficult choice with regard to fax. They don't want to make a significant capital investment because of the diminishing requirement but they also know that sometimes perhaps for legal documents or because the destination does not have email they might need fax.

For this reason, and the others below, when we looked at implementing fax in m3iR we decided not to use the internal fax option but instead to implement the facility to route faxes through an internet fax service. Because of the way this is seamlessly integrated the user is actually unaware that the outgoing fax is being routed efficiently and cost effectively over the net.

You are free to use any email to fax gateway with m3iR to fit in with any existing infrastructure you may have, but you may want to consider m3i Fax as it is an excellent service with some great features that is well integrated with m3i. m3i Fax is a Pay-as-you-Go service with no commitment. If you find you only send the occasional fax, it doesn't matter as you only pay for the pages sent.

The m3iR implements the fax sending element of m3i Fax. While we could receive faxes in the device we felt it was not really the right way to do it these days as printing out faxes on paper is not good for confidentiality or your green credentials. Faxes are received through email where if you really want to, you can print them on the MFD.
