Services

Services are sources and destinations that m3iR can obtain content from and route content to These are currently image files from the MFD scanner, since that is the only source but will later include other content types.

Some of these services, like scanner and print are inside the MFD and manifest in the physical world while others are on the network or hosted in the cloud.

Usually these services will take the content and manipulate or transform it and may pass it on for further processing by other services.

There is little debate these days that fax is a declining requirement that is gradually being replaced by scan-to-email. People buying MFDs face a difficult choice with regard to fax. They don't want to make a significant capital investment because of the diminishing requirement but they also know that sometimes perhaps for legal documents or because the destination does not have email they might need fax.

For this reason, and the others below, when we looked at implementing fax in m3iR we decided not to use the internal fax option but instead to implement the facility to route faxes through an internet fax service. Because of the way this is seamlessly integrated the user is actually unaware that the outgoing fax is being routed efficiently and cost effectively over the net.
